Nice backpack, but very small. In Northern California our CERT inventory list will not fit in this pack. Even triaging supplies and basic safety fills it up. Probably good for public info events or fun run type events.
It is very nicely built just too small.
This is a quality pack and a solid choice for equipping a CERT unit. I could quibble with some design choices but the features outweigh the quirks.
The quality of the backpack is very good but the size is too small. The backpack issued to me after CERT certification is bigger and only marginally less well made. When I ordered this backpack I had hoped it would be of better quality, which it is, and of a larger size than my CERT issued backpack but sadly it is not. There is room for a hard hat and vest in the main pocket and one smaller pocket on front with little useful room for much more than pens and notepads. There are side storage pockets but they aren’t that helpful. I had hoped for something like my Swiss gears computer backpack with several storage pockets and perhaps some Molle like the 5.11 backpacks. As it is I will continue to use my original and upgrade to a non CERT 5.11 backpack if necessary.
James,
We are sorry you are not happy with your purchase, and we will gladly accept a return with a full refund if you no longer want the backpack. To start a return, just navigate to your order status page and follow the instructions for a return/exchange to have us send you a prepaid shipping label.
Thank you for the valuable feedback on the specs of the backpack, including the expected 20L capacity. The Grad Bag was intentionally designed as a lean kit. Something a new CERT graduate could receive and use many times in the future. In a variety of different ways. Versus receiving a giveaway and discarding it within a couple months for an upgrade. A common mistake for new volunteer responders is packing too heavy. This bag has been field tested to easily carry essential PPE. A helmet, safety glasses, gloves, vest and various personal items. Such as snacks, water, ICS documents and small tools. (Lights, whistle, IFAK etc.). All that said, the FCR design team already has a larger pack upgrade in the works. Sounds like you may have an interest in what's to come. Feel free to email us any specific features you'd be looking for in a larger CERT backpack.
Love the look of the new CERT Backpacks! The only draw back to this particular one is that it is on the small side, difficult to put what I need in this one. Constructed well and held up to heavy items that I carried in it during conference and several other events. Also shoulder straps were comfortable.
DeShon, thank you for taking the time to provide this valuable feedback!
The freebie backpack I received upon CERT graduation needed replacing within a few months of regular deployments. This new bag is sturdy. And a great size. (Not too big) I can see many configurations working with all the small features built into the pack. I think it looks awesome! Great quality. Great price. Love the Grad Bag.
